Big Turn-Out, Big Discussions

See the Photos in our Gallery Here

It was a super day with big turn-out as over 80 people crowded into the Johns River Community Hall. Community groups, businesses and residents turned out for the big Questions and Answers forum, which ran from 11am to 2pm, with a nice lunch break included!

The Panellists

The Q&A panellists answered questions from local community groups, and from the floor as well.  The panel was made up of  Leslie Williams, our new State MP  for Port Macquarie, Councillor David Keegan from the Greater Taree City Council; from the RTA, Bob Higgins, GM Pacific Highway, Bob Handley, Implementation Manager, and Bob Page, Project Manager.

The chiefs of the NSW Police Force Local Area Command, Supt. Paul Fehon and Insp. Tony Powers also answered questions from the community, and most kindly brought along their new Mobile Area Command vehicle.

A Community Affair

Heads of the various community associations and groups also sat on a side-panel with the audience, to pose questions common to each community.  Moorland Community Association President Jane Burden and MCA Past President Kevin Williams headed the Moorland contingent, with David Shepard and Chris Bawn  representing Johns River.  Sherry Stumm sat in for Hannam Vale.
Kendall and Kew did not send representatives, although questions were submitted from those communities which were posed to the panel.   Coopernook declined to be involved in the forum, citing their interest in remaining linked more to Harrington.

Hosted by the Johns River Community Hall & Recreational Reserve Trust in conjunction with the Johns River Community Progress Association, the forum  canvased a wide range of issues in a lively format moderated by Glen Ferrero, past president of the JRCPA.   Panellists were kept on the hot seat with questions redirected and commitments sought.
The hall kitchen was very ably operated by Wendy Bawn, Marian Heath, and Rod Heath. The excellent coffees, tea and trays of many different sandwiches, pies, sausage rolls, as well as fresh hot scones with jam and cream really made the lunch break a super one!
All Community Groups, Businesses and Residents alike are thanked for their Interest and Attendance!

The Community Q&A Forum was hosted by the Johns River Community Hall & Recreational Reserve Trust and the Johns River Community Progress Association to encourage debate and awareness of local issues for all levels of government across the wider Three Brothers villages area, from Coopernook to Kendall, including Moorland, Hannam Vale, Lorne and and Kew.
