The Lights are On!
The Three Brothers communities of Kew, Johns River, and Moorland will remain firmly on the tourist map twenty-four hours a day, with the announcement today that the location markers would be illuminated!
Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner and Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams also announced that new lighting would be installed for the existing location marker signs at both Coopernook and Harrington.
The new signs for the Three Brothers communities will be now be built with the lighting option included, once further community consultation on the final designs is completed in the coming months.
New Lights for Harro and Coopernook
"I'm pleased to announce today that work to install overhead lighting which will illuminate signs at the intersection of the Pacific Highway with Coopernook and Harrington roads will soon start and be completed by the end of October," Mr Stoner said.
The lights are being installed in response to a request from community members who were concerned highway users were not aware they were passing Coopernook and Harrington at night.
"In addition to normal highway signs, the Coopernook and Harrington intersections feature location markers which let highway users know they are passing a town.
Signage Issues Heard
NSW Minister for Roads the Hon. Duncan Gay with Local Port Macquarie MP, Leslie Williams at Rosies in Johns River
Leslie Williams praised the communities of Harrington, Coopernook, Kew, Johns River and Moorland for their advocacy on this issue.
"Roads Minister Duncan Gay was left in no doubt that the town location markers must be illuminated so I am glad we now know exactly when that will happen," Mrs Williams said, going on to underscore how effective the existing location markers have been for Harringon and Coopernook. "The new lighting means they will continue to promote the towns at night."
Stay Tuned for Final Designs!
The concept designs with the new lighting facilities are being worked out now at the RTA using an expert design firm for the six new locality markers going in, two each at Kew, Johns River and Moorland.
The Three Brothers communities should be proud of their efforts in submitting photographs to the RTA for their consideration, and the communities will all be asked for comment on the final sign, so stay tuned for more information as it happens here in the Johns River Journal and local media.
