The "Johns" and Johns River
What is in a Name?
Early settlers (according to several Johns River residents) referred to the lower part of the river as John's River, and the upper (above the tidal mark) as Stewart's River. John Stewart of course had surveyed the area, and John Oxley had sailed down the coast here as well.
Maltese and other workers laid rail through the area in 1919 on the day that the Prince John died at Sandringham. Due to his misunderstood eplieptic episodes, he was not seen much in public. Prince John was the youngest child of King George V and Queen Mary.

Whatever the case, there are enough "John" associations with the location, but few definitive historical records have as yet come to light -- at least to us!
