In June last year the Central Hunter Local Area Command was awarded one of 25 new mobile vans, and this month our Manning-Great Lakes LAC, which includes Johns River, Moorland and Harrington, was also awarded one.

The big vans are able to travel around at the various villages and towns of the Northern Manning, and park somewhere as a mobile police station.   The stations can then perform many of the most important tasks which a fixed police station is normally called on to do.

The vehicles, which cost about $130,000 each, are fitted out with a mobile data terminal with access to police databases, and have extensive communications equipment, and are able to operate around the clock where they are most needed.

Our new local area van also has a digital message board and interview room, and will be used for planned or emergency situations, from busy market days in Johns River to  Pacific Highway accidents, and public events in Harrington.

Independent Member for Port Macquarie, Peter Besseling, says "It's a fantastic win for smaller communities in the northern part of the police command, especially Harrington, where incidents of anti-social behaviour increase during the summer months when the community's population more than doubles."
